Estenäsbrygga on Vållö

About the project

Vållö is a year-round inhabited island and Natura 2000 area in Mönsterås municipality. Estenäs is the point on Vållö that is closest to the mainland and has a water depth that accommodates larger boats. Here there is a dock that serves as the home port for Vållö's own icebreaker as well as a quay for heavy transport to and from the island, but there is no space for more. Constructing an additional dock would provide the opportunity to receive the moving boating life/boat tourists and allow for planned guided boat tours during the summer months. During the winter months, an additional dock at the nearest point to the mainland, which is ice-free the longest, would facilitate for permanent residents on Vållö who commute for work and for professional activities including fishing and animal husbandry.

Vållö Fishing Conservation Area, Vållö Village Association, Vållö Road Association, Vållö Village Care Association, Vållö Boat Association, and Mönsterås municipality agreed in consultation with the County Administrative Board of Kalmar County that a new dock would be built at Estenäs.

Project goals

The project's goal is a well-functioning stable cast dock (26 m long and 3 m wide) that can accommodate larger/heavier boats as well as ”regular” vacation boats so that the moving boating life has easier and greater access to Vållö, boat tours become possible, and a new winter dock for the permanent residents who both engage in professional activities on Vållö and for those who commute to the mainland. The dock will be accessible at no cost. Operation and maintenance will be managed and funded by Vållö Fishing Area.
