About us

Kustlandet is a non-profit association formed by the area's associations, businesses, and municipalities to conduct rural development, primarily within leader and the EU's structural funds. The activities are based on a locally anchored development plan. By co-financing development projects in the area, the goals of the strategy are met.

Rural development with the leader method

Leader is a method where businesses, non-profit, and public parties collaborate to develop their place. The development method, which has existed within the EU since the early 1990s, is based on the idea that local development is most effectively and sustainably carried out by those who live and work in an area. Through its leader area, organizations can apply for support for development projects that contribute to meeting the area's goals.

Development strategy

Within Leader, local representatives from the non-profit, private, and public sectors design a development strategy that describes how they want to develop the countryside socially, economically, and environmentally. The development strategy also follows overarching guidelines established within the EU and is approved by the Swedish Board of Agriculture. The strategy is implemented by the board granting support to project applications that contribute to meeting the area's development needs. The funding comes from the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development, the state, and our municipalities Norrköping, Söderköping, Valdemarsvik, Västervik, Oskarshamn, and Mönsterås.

The Leader office and the board

Kustlandet is a non-profit association led by a board that constitutes a broad and equal representation from the non-profit, public, and private sectors. The board members have been elected because they have extensive knowledge and networks in the area.

The association has employed staff who support and assist applicants throughout the entire application process from idea to final reporting. You can also turn to the office to brainstorm ideas that may not yet be project-ready to get tips on collaboration partners and contacts.
