On Hasselö, Catharina and Hans Carlén have built up a business over the past six years that combines sustainable lifestyle, food and meeting places. With experience from care, photography and food craftsmanship, they currently run an organic sourdough bakery, summer café and a regenerative kitchen garden – while also renovating their own home with ecological materials.

The project was born out of a desire to meet the need for concrete examples of transition and sustainability, as well as to create a place where people can meet, learn and be inspired in community. By renovating the old grain store on the farm, it will become a meeting place for workshops, courses and education, with space for 10 participants in the gathering room and up to 8 overnight guests. The store will have a kitchen, stove, water connection to a mini treatment plant and an environmental toilet that recycles nutrients for the crops.

In the long term, the goal is to develop collaborations with and offer extra support and a safe environment for participants who want to combine learning with practical work, thereby spreading knowledge about sustainable transition in practice.

The goal of the project is to rebuild ”The Store” into a functional and sustainable meeting place with a gathering room, sleeping places, kitchen, stove, water connection and environmental toilet.
