The Realm of Beings-
Place-based nature and cultural experience

How can local folklore, nature conservation, and digital technology collaborate to create new experiences? This is the starting point for the project The Realm of Beings, which develops a new nature and cultural experience in Sjömålen in Mönsterås municipality. Through the project, a marked experience trail is created where visitors can discover the area's nature, history, and stories in a new way. Along the trail, nature-integrated stations are built that connect to digital content via QR codes. Through the mobile phone, visitors can access stories, sounds, and visual material that deepen the experience of the place without the natural environment being burdened by extensive signage or facilities.

The project also includes nature conservation efforts such as brush clearing, the creation of paths, and highlighting the landscape's characteristics. The goal is to make the area more accessible, safe, and attractive while preserving and strengthening nature and cultural values.

The target group is primarily families with children, schools, and nature and culture-interested residents and visitors in the region. Through the digital storytelling format, an experience is created that serves both as recreation and as an educational tool to learn more about local history, cultural heritage, and nature.

Project's purpose and goals

The purpose of the project is to develop Sjömålen as an accessible and sustainable nature and cultural environment where the area's stories, landscapes, and history are activated through a cohesive experience concept.

The ambition is to create a long-term destination that strengthens local identity, increases interest in the area's nature and cultural values, and contributes to sustainable visitor development.
