Towards a fossil-free
Forest Meadow

About the project

Simonstorp Sports Association operates Skogsvallen, an important meeting place for residents in Simonstorp and surrounding areas. Here, children, youth, and adults gather for sports, exercise, markets, storytelling evenings, association days, and other activities. Skogsvallen has thus developed into more than a sports facility – a place for community and hope for the future in the locality.

The facility covers just over 12,500 square meters of grass areas and requires regular maintenance. Today, the work has partly been done with older gasoline-powered machines, which means emissions, noise, and a heavy workload for the association's volunteers.

Through the project, Simonstorp IF will transition Skogsvallen to fossil-free and quieter operation through an electric lawn mowing system with robotic lawn mowers, complementary electric brush cutters, trimmers, and walk-behind mowers, as well as a charging solution.

The transition means that maintenance can be carried out with renewable electricity, digital control, and robotization. This reduces both climate impact and noise while freeing up time for the association's volunteers. By moving from fossil-based machines to a digital and electric maintenance system, Simonstorp IF wants to show that even smaller associations can contribute to climate transition.

Project's purpose and goals

The project's purpose is to achieve a complete transition to fossil-free operation at Skogsvallen, reduce the association's climate impact, and free up time and energy for the volunteers who run the operations. The goal of the project is to install and put into operation an electric robotic lawn mower, two brush cutters/trimmers, and an electric walk-behind mower, which has made Skogsvallen:

• 100% fossil-free operation,
• reduce CO₂ emissions by approximately 93% (-320 kg CO₂ per year),
• have a quieter and cleaner environment with noise levels below 72 dB(A),
• use renewable electricity
• have a modernized, digital, and efficient maintenance system that can be operated by the association's own resources.
